Winter is almost here, and that means it’s time to pull your skis and your winter jacket out of storage. If you’re looking to hit the slopes somewhere new this year, take a look at these four ski resorts that are near Salisbury, Maryland.
Roundtop Mountain Resort
The Roundtop Mountain Resort is 193 miles away in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania. This family friendly resort has 8 different lifts and 16 trails. The resort has won the Conversion Cup from the National Ski Areas Association, making it one of the best programs in the nation for beginner skiers
There are special discount days starting in January such as Ladies’ Day on Tuesdays and Mens’ Day and College Students’ Days on Wednesdays. If you need to drop off your child for a couple of hours, or even for the whole day, there is an onsite child care center called Playcare for children that are 18 months to 12 years of age. The resort also has also snowtubing, which is a great way to relax after a long day on the slopes.
Liberty Mountain Resort
Located 169 miles away from Salisbury in Carroll Valley, Pennsylvania, this resort has 9 lifts, 16 trails, a terrain park, and an 800-foot vertical drop. All the trails are lit for night skiing. It has also recently upgraded its rental equipment with Volkl skis and Dalbello boots. Onsite restaurants and cafes include Sneaky’s Pizza, Alpine Starbucks, and The Bakery.
If you want to make it a full weekend trip, you can rent a hotel room in one of the three lodges that are just steps away from the slopes. It makes for a nice package deal; hotel guests save 10 percent on lift tickets and equipment rentals.
Whitetail Resort
Located on Two Top Mountain in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, Whitetail Resort is about 199 miles away from Salisbury. It has 9 lifts, 23 trails, and a 900-foot vertical drop. There’s a good selection of food, including a pizzeria, a café serving Starbucks coffee, and the Marketplace that serves burgers, soup, nachos, and more.
Along with regular lessons for children and adults, the resort also offers Adaptive Snowsports Programs for kids and adults that are mentally or physically challenged. Also unique is a free shuttle service that picks you up in the parking lot and drops you off closer to the slopes.
Massanutten Resort
While the travel distance to this Virginia resort is about 275 miles from Salisbury, the facilities are so fantastic that it’s worth the visit. Winter sport fans can enjoy the 14 ski trails and the 1,100-foot vertical drop, or perhaps try out the 4,250 square-foot outdoor skating rink.
Nonskiers have nothing to complain about, thanks to the incredible 42,000 square-foot indoor water park. It’s fun for all ages with its tube slides, lazy river, water fortress, and hot tubs. If you’re looking to relax, Massanutten Resort also has a spa; it offers such treatments as massages, facials, and manicures. There really is something for everyone here. With so much to do, you may as well get the most out of your trip and stay overnight at one of the resort’s hotel rooms or condos.
