Driving a car in Maryland

If you are new to Maryland or if you are driving a car in Maryland for the first time, there are a few things you should know! Maryland requires you to carry on a few procedures before you start driving your vehicle. Keep reading as we provide a checklist of what you should do before driving a car in Maryland.

Policies and procedures to follow before driving a car in Maryland:

Firstly, registering your car with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) is a mandatory step. Not doing so before you start driving a vehicle in Maryland will be considered illegal. For this, you will be required to submit a registration application, certificate of title, and fees. After this, MVA will give you a temporary permit to drive your car until the application is accepted or rejected.

Then, you have to pay a visit to the local Maryland MVA branch or the Maryland MVA’s webpage to get information on registering and getting a number plate. You have to pay all the undisputed taxes and unemployment insurance contributions for MVA to renew or transfer your vehicle registration. Any used vehicle with the model year of 1986 or later should undergo a safety infection before getting titled or registered.

Where are the safety Inspection checks carried out in Maryland?

You can visit any licensed dealership in Maryland, a service station, or a specialized service station. A certificate of inspection will be given to you once your car passes the service test. You can take this certificate to the service station, or you can ask if they can send an electronic copy to the MVA. Check the MVA website and carry the given documents required to get a license.
